hi - wondered if anyone could help with the following - please -

Have loaded pics and video clips from digital camera card to pc. Pics work fine, but video clips are in .mov file with an associated .thm file. When I play them they run in quick time but picture is purple lines - audio ok. Camera instructions talk about 2 different frame rates for video clips - could this be problem? Tried software with camera and browsing internet for hours but all a bit mind bending to a complete novice.....

The thm file is just a thumbnail. It’s usually a jpeg and may contain other metadata. You should be able to view it in any picture viewer.
Purple lines sounds like an overlay problem. Here’s a quick way to test in QuickTime 7. Go to edit, preferences, quicktime preferences, then select the advanced tab. You can try tweaking the DirectX settings, and if all else fails, turn to safe mode (GDI only).
Out of curiosity, what codec does the video file use? To find out go to window, show movie inspector (newer versions of QuickTime 7). Generally QuickTime movies from digital cameras use either Photo JPEG or MPEG-4 (part 2). I’m speculating smearing (or other overlay problems) would usually be associated with MPEG-4, but it’s only a guess.
