Could you tell us more about the file? What is its extension? Is it an avi? Did you feed it into a diagnostic tool to find out which codec you’re missing?
You can find some diagnostic tools are listed on this page

That doesn’t tell us much. Feed the file into avicodec (http://avicodec.duby.info) (- yes, download it and run it!) and paste what each of the line file:, audio:, and video: says.

it says
File : 319 MB (319 Mcool, duration: 1:20:45, type: ASF, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 30 %

Video : 304 MB, 527 Kbps, 10.19 fps, 720*480 (4:3), WMV3 = Windows Media Video V9, Supported

Audio : 19.24 MB, 33 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 0x161 = Windows Media Audio V7, Supported

It says supported, but i still can’t play the file.

One of the codec packages on this page should work.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx

If for some reason it fails try to run the file while connected to the net and see if it’s protected by drm (digital rights management).
