Fred Guest Guest | I also bought a mini digital camcorder and tried to view on WMP 10 but could get no video. It searched for the missing m4s2 codec but i always got a download error.\can anybody help?

Joel Guest | Ditto. This is driving me crazy. I seem to load the codec package for WMP 7+ just fine (which is supposed to include WMP10.) But the file doesn’t play.
Plugging the file into the AVIcodec.exe still says I am missing M4s2 for video.
Why do I have to do this in the first place - I have the latest player and that codec is years old. I am hating Mr. Softy right now. I need this for work tomorrow.

Joel Guest | I tried uninstalling WMP10 and going back to WMP9, then installed the codecs through the “first link” described previously. No dice. But then I upgraded to WMP10 after doing this, and it finally worked (plays .ASF no problem, video and sound.) Previously, I tried removing WMP10 and reinstalling (no good) then tried installing the codec (still no good.) So I suggest trying what I did - totally remove WMP10 and go back to a clean start of 9, install M4S2, then go to 10. Give it a shot! Now I can use converter programs to translate to WMV or MPEG or whatever... seems good.

Fred Guest | Joel, thanks for that, your solution works great. What are the benefits of changing the file formats?
| 09 Feb 2005 11:16 am |
Joel Guest | I had to change formats just because some of the people that I sent the file to ALSO couldn’t play them. It was easier to put the file in a WMV format that they all were able to play without having to have them go through the pain of updating WMP... This was just for some 30 seconds videos at work that were being emailed around to several people - for personal stuff I am just keeping the .ASF.

nat Guest | can anyone tell me where i can download m4s2 codec, i will be greatful to you.
| 03 Mar 2005 10:06 pm |
Joel Guest | I believe the link above from Jan 8th gets you there. It is on the Microsoft site. If that link is incorrect, I am pretty sure I found it by Googling “M4S2 download” and maybe included “Microsoft”...
The solution posted above should work for you - good luck...

Rich Guest | I took movies using the pentax s5n and whenever I watch the movie, the video plays in like slow motion and the audio runs at normal pace. Can anyone help with this one?
| 27 Apr 2005 08:28 am |
David Guest | Yes I am having exactly the same problem with my S5n. The audio and video are completely out of sync when played on MS Media Player 10. I called Pentax locally and they said to try VLC Media Player and it works perfectly.
The problem is that I want to use MS Media Player since that is the player that ACDSEE for Pentax uses, and also Adobe Photoshop Album. HELP.
Also does anyone know how to convert the Pentax movie files (M4S2) to a format that I can edit in Premiere?
Thanks,
David | |

Chrus Guest | Has someone opened M4S2 video file with success in Virtual Dub?
I was able to open the files with the 3ivx Pack installed, but the decompression was not correct.
Installing of the Windows Media Player Codecs does not help.

joe persson Guest | Did you get the S5n video playback to work well? And btw, was the quality of the camera’s video? I’m considering this camera and should take a video of a wedding with it.

David Guest | I have not got the S5n to work with MS Media player. The sound is still out of synch with the video. It’s a great little camera other than that... and no I wouldn’t film a wedding with it unless I didn’t know the couple very well. Use a video camera for a wedding if you can get your hands on one.

joe persson Guest | David Thank’s for the info - so the sound and the video is still out of sync. What about the other solution - video lan player, is that also out of sync?
Ehum i’m still considering pentax s5n for video shooting, as one seller showed an quite good video on it..

Coral Guest | David says he uses software to convert files to more easily transferable ones.
Can you please tell me what you use and where to find it?
Thanks very much
