Why much more movie trailers in internet are .mov and sorenson codec

Hello all,

When I downloaded some movie trailers from net , I founded that more number of that trailers are having .mov extension and sorenson codec. Why? .mov files are heavy , isit ? Then why all are using .mov. Can they use mp4 or other light weighted formats ??
