playback/position indicator problem

here’s my problem - i have a few mpeg’s that will not play to the end of the file. when played, the position indicator moves very quickly to the end of the file, playing only the first 30 sec or so of the file. but, if i move the indicator back a bit, the file actually fast forwards, and the indicator still moves rapidly to the end. i have nimo codec pack installed, but i still have this problem in every media player, including divx. any help would be greatly appreciated.
