so much crap replies from people here

a DVD consists of VOB, IFO, and BUP files

if you want to play the dvd you need a software dvd player like powerDVD, windvd, MPC, VLC and others

you play the VIDEO_TS.IFO file not the VOB

and yes i do know that a VOB can be played by software dvd players but there is INFormation in the VIDEO_TS.IFO file the the player needs.

if you just play the VOB you MAY have problems like no audio, or subtitles ....

DVDshrink is free and dosnt ask you to pay for it

DVDshrink is a transcoder, it does rip but its not as good as a dedicated ripper like dvddecrypter

OK so i’ve downloaded Media Player Classic and I can, at last, play my VOB files.

However, is there some way to convert these to Mpegs - because I want to edit them and allow my friends to play them too.

The DVD shrink exe isn’t supposed to decrypt anything....Try running it with DVD43. It’s free and runs in the tray unless you shut it off. It will decrypt pretty much anything. I’ve been using it for a year or so and I haven’t found anything it won’t decrypt. It works fine with DVD shrink which will pull the whole image off a DVD and put it on your HD or if you have nero, burn it to a disk...

Have fun

Put the Smirnoff away and try something technical. BTW how is the Nemiroff Linx from the last 007? First try to open your file with GSpot or Avicodec and find out what codecs you may need. My codecs collection is this: All in One. DivX, Xvid,XP pack also a decoder is good to have like FFDSHOW or Satsuki Decoder and for sound AC3 filter and the best player VLC. Stay away from mega packs. Here is a link: http://www.free-codecs.com/ Come back with some info about your file.
