Conversion Freezes

I am using Win Avi and I am trying to convert some files to DVD. I have tried 5 different files and 2 have worked but the other seem to freeze halfway through when I go to hit cancel (after ot freezes up for 20 minutes) it tells me the conversion completed. But when I go to play it I only have half the movie, I used this to burn VCD and it worked great I dont thionk I am doing any thing differently.
Can some one help?
