dvd starts play then "skips" a few seconds of footage, then repeats...

I converted my avi video, but the video I made on the dvd “skips”. I tried a test video that was maybe 25 seconds in length. The video picture is clear and sharp and there’s no problem there. But, when I begin play, after a few seconds, it “jumps” or “skips” ahead 3 or 4 seconds of footage. Then continues great for a few more seconds, then skips again. This continues to the end. I need to change/adjust something, but what?
