tsj452 Guest | I am tried to upgrade the firmware for my MMP3642A and now I can only see the bottom two lines of the LCD. I have tried re-doing the upgrade a couple of times both with and without a card installed and still have the same issue. Does anyone know how to correct this.

Vancouver Travelling Man Guest | I tried the Sigmatel for the MMP3642A as well and it didn’t work. Thanks to the person who suggested the CD, it worked.

Helen Guest | I dont have a memorex mp3 but my son had a cheaper walk-m8 512 mb and was getting a format error message so I deleted all files and then it would say it was out of memory after loading only one file.
I changed the file to FAT and then formated the removable disk and yippee I have a very happy 10 year old. I was all set to return it to the shop I have now rang the shop to tell them that this was the solution. Thank you Brandon and John from an very grateful idiot.

Mark_in_Canada Guest | Note to anyone who has an MMP3642a player: DON’T update the firmware to the latest version on the memorex site. The player will technically still work (it plays music) but the screen is screwed up now. I’ve noticed a few other people on this thread complaining about that, and that’s where I’m at now. I’ve emailed memorex support asking for the original firmware so I can (hopefully) flash it back, but I’ve gotten no reply. I think their customer support is a freaking joke, they put buggy (or incorrectly labeled) firmware on their site, and I highly doubt I’ll be buying anything else with the memorex label on it again.
Totally disgusted.
If anyone has an old version of the firmware for this player, could you please do me (and a lot of other people) a huge favour and post it somewhere? Memorex apparently is not going to.

Bruce McMurtry Guest | I hope I am not hijacking this thread, but I have a question maybe someone can answer about the 3642. When I check the file space on the unit through the “properties” box on my computer, it correctly shows as total space as 64Mb, but even with no songs on it, about 32Mb are taken, leaving me room for only 32Mb. Is this correct, or is it somehow incorrectly formatted?

IT Manager Guest | DO NOT upgrade the firmware on your MMP8570. Version 1.002.000 will kill your display. Memorex is not a very good company to deal with so if you fry your device, its over.

I had this problem also. The player would not boot up with the card but the card was intact when you hooked it back up to USB. I noticed that the card was a FAT32 and the player was a FAT. I changed the settings and formatted to FAT nad everything worked fine. Best of luck.

Aquik72 Guest | I have the 3642, I have spent several hours trying to format the external 1 gig card and have had ZERO luck, this thing SUCKS!!!! I’m about ready to drive over it with my truck. I have read all threads about formating the drive, but the exteranl drive is grayed out. Yes it does say FAT 16, internal FAT 12 ( no problem formating internal ) how do you change the external to FAT 12 or FAT period as mentioned , by the way my OS is Win 2000.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance !!

I agree with you. I upgraded the firmware, and now I get no display. The USB MSS appears to work. So I guess I have an expensive USB drive.
The instructions with the manual were clear. The read me with the upgrade was a little confusing. Anyone else run into this ? Thanks.
