kevin Guest | Nick, if you ever happen to read this thanks a bunch for taking the time to share the step-by-step details on formating the MP33642 drives. I bought two different cards and still got the error message and thought “that’s why it was so cheap”. I was just going to wait until someone bought me an ipod for christmas? Now I don’t have to. I just read your message, followed the steps, and “wallah”. I can now put enough songs on my MP3 to last the entire marathon I’m planning on running.

Laura Chaney Guest | I have the Memorex mmp3642. It was horrible. Had it 3 months before I could use it. I went into search from start tab and found the stusbmscformat.exe file then right clicked it and selected format. It was a ordeal but I made it. Memorex should be more informative. I might add I had a external card added and I was getting error messages. This will work.

If you want to use a card with more than 64MB, you need to use the CD that was with the player.
DO NOT USE AUTORUN! Explore the disc, go into the “programs” folder,
which is located in the MMP3642 folder. Then run the stusbmscformat.exe application. It will show the drive letter for the player, but click
the arrow and select the next drive letter down; which is the name of
the external sd card you added. Then press start.
This worked for me, I hope it will be useful. Why memorex doesn’t
address this issue is beyond me.
OK. I just did this and it seems to work fine now. Thank you very much RJ! 10/15/05

Tracee Guest | I just bought, today, a 1.0GB SD disk for my MMP3642 ,which I have loved for a year now- until I tried to upgrade my memory~! WHAT A PAIN IN THE BUTT ! I have tried all (ALL) of the advice posted here and still cannot get my device to stop the error message (ERROR! reformat external media with sigma tel reformatter) When I try to format the H: drive (my memory card) the options gray out and I am not allowed or cannot figure out how to format that one damn drive! The songs I put on the drives play on my computer... but cannot get them to play on the player any longer... Help me get this stupid thing to work !
ANYone have any new advice???

linuxman Guest | I think the firmware on it limits to nothing larger than 512mb. It would take a simple firmware upgrade to up that to the current 2gb sd that are available but I think memorex has ditched any effort on these as I put in support request that was never answered about this very thing.

n allen Guest | I bought a MP3 Memorex model 8021 and can not download the updated version of the program from the Memorex website. I loaded the disk that came with the player, which was an error. Now I am trying to get the situation corrected.
Does anyone have any help? I can’t open the download instructions from the website - the file won’t open. Any help from anyone would be greaty appreciated. Thanks

122 Guest | Just so you know the telleformatter thing can be fixed by downloading the first piece of software on the disk you get with it. It is under a thing that says only for windows 98 users thats a lie. It’s called 3642A. I have a problem getting my system into recovery mode the memorex.com info is cut off.

linuxman Guest | To get into recovery mode, follow the faq info for the next up version that memorex had and it’s the same for this one.

RJ Guest | I’m glad the CD info helped a few people...I ran into another problem with this mp3 player. Out of the blue one day, It just wouldn’t turn off. The way the buttons are designed, they will all eventually press down at an angle and miss the contact botton inside. I used a little “poster putty” on the side where the bottons are connected, this seems to keep the bottons on target. Why buy quality products when you can “MacGuyver” a crap product into working properly, right?
