I Just downloaded a DVD-Rip, I’ve used WINmedia player to play the movie but keep getting the following message:

“Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file”

I thought it was a missing codec problem so i took the advise from this site to work out what codec i needed to download.

I installed AVIcodec and when i click the “select” button to gather information about the AVI file i get the following info:

File : 739 MB (739 Mcool, duration: 1:39:33, type: OGG, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 47 %

Video : 707 MB, 993 Kbps, 29.970 fps, 480*360 (4:3), DX50 = DivXNetworks Divx v5, UNSUPPORTED

Audio : 32 MB, 45 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x674F = Ogg Vorbis (mode 1), UNSUPPORTED

What does UNSUPPORTED MEAN?????

I have downloaded divX but i cant play the movie in that eithersad

And i have no idea about the audio codec either, the website link for www.Vorbis.com seems to be a dead link!!!

Can someone please help me to play the file or tell me if it is useless so i can delete it!!

Thanks guys and gals wink

It could be that you have an old version of the divx codec on there or the movie was encoded with the PRO version using some PRO only features not found in the free version. My advice to you would be completley un-install the DivX you have on there now and goto: http://www.divx.com and download the latest trial PRO version and install that. It looks like the audio is in OGG VORBIS format (better than mp3 at lower birates but also not as popular as mp3). You can download that codec here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Vorbis_Ogg_ACM.htm

Hope this helps!! smiley

type: OGG
That tells you the file is in an ogm container. Even though you have the right codec it won’t play, since Windows Media Player can’t (natively) play ogm.
Try Media Player Classic or VideoLan instead, and install ogg audio as stated by DaMasteRZ.

There’s also other ways to play ogm, including in Windows Media Player, many of which are listed here
http://ld-anime.faireal.net/guide/ogm-en
or elsewhere on the web.
