Install that program, click a few times and in no time at all you will have your .MKV files on DVD. It has a very simple GUI and, while limited, there is facility to make crude menus, add pictures etc.
I’ve posted this link twice today - no commission (honest!), I’m just a fan of such a simple and entirely effective tool!

Darkmorn Guest | hey I have soem Divx-AC3 file i used dvdsanta to convert to dvd format, didnt get any errors when to dvd where burned, but when i play the dvd on my PS2 I hear no sound what am I doing worng? I have not tried a normal DVD player but that should not matter should it?

“MKV: Subtitle stream (3) contains overlapping subtitles. Some of them may not be kept when editing”
“MKV: The video may have a variable framerate. If so we strongly advise you to use another tool to safely process the file”.
When I play the video file in VirtualDubMod, there is no sound, or subtitles.
Also, how the heck do I choose streams and all this? I am total “noob” in video editing, so I would dearly like to know how to do all this that “anonymous” wrote. I just don’t get it. I don’t want to have a vieo without sound or subtitles as well.
Can anyone please help me?
P.S. I’m sorry for reviving a year old topic, but I googled this page up.
P.P.S. The “MKV to AVI converter”, even the trial version, crashes when I try to *convert* any FMA episodes.

Brom Guest | So, in the converting program SUPER, when you convert from .mkv to .avi, can you pick and choose the audio tracks and subtitles that appear in the finished .avi? I haven’t been able to find an option for it in the program, and any advice would definitely be appreciated.

Tommy S Guest | Why did this forum stop in dec 05? If the people who invented matroska encoding wanted it to be popular then they must have realised that proper decoding to “standard” DVD format (with the obviously very special subtext function of matroska INCLUDED!)is a necessary ingredient for everybody that don´t want to look at their films on a small computer screen but on their home cinema system.
Perhaps I have missed something but it seems to me that the problem with disappering subtext when converting from .mkv format remains until this day, or am I wrong? If you have an answer please mail it to: tommyskold@hotmail.com, if you only have a comment you can continue this forum.

Florin Guest | I converted an mkv file to avi, but... from 4.7 GB I ended up with... 95GB. I’m puzzled on what to do.
I am wondering how can I keep the high definition that I’m after from the mkv file to a format that my HD (xvid) dvd player will be able to play (as HD). I can play files on it, but not mkv, just mpeg, and avi. I was hoping to be able to play the avi file just converted (in about 20 hours?!?!) but I can’t do much with 95 GB.
I used winavi converter for the conversion.
Hope somebody can help me

MKV is more and more used these days, especially for HD-TV h.264 content, and having to convert the files all the time will be a PITA  ....

I’ve been reading through this thread and I’ve come to ralise that there are a lot of peolpe who are having issues with converting .mkvs to other things.
I had this issue when I got some old anime vids off the net.
I found that if you download the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack this will (at least) allow you to play the damed things on you Windows Media Player (WMP). With these codec installed, I could even switch between audio tracks and subtitles. Nice.
However, Nero (specifically NeroVision) still wouldn’t import them to turn them into DVD. Dammit.
I happened upon a little programme called AlltoAVI (find it here: http://alltoavi.sourceforge.net/index.php) that converts more or less any format (including .mkv, .ogm and even .vob to .avi. It also lets you pick and choose the audio track and the subtitles track to include. It’s also quite quick.
Once I had my .avi I simply imported them into NeroVision and I was done.
Please let me know If this makes sense as I have been converting and burning things for many a year now and I have a workable solution for most situations.
