Hanzen Guest | Don’t listen to ayos, DVD Santa V4 does NOT support MKV files, you only get a “unsupported format” message.

steady1919 Guest | these are all great ways in which to do this but the simplest way and by far less time consuming is just rename the file from mkv to avi

Orlando Guest | okay, this board needs some reassurance.
I deal with MKV files on a regular basis, and im going to clear up any misconceptions.
for all you people out there saying “this guy is an idiot for putting it as a mkv file, what a noob he could of just used avi.." ...please, dont even bother opening your mouth if you dont know what your talking about.
MKV files are a new revolutionary way to pack information. An AVI is a codec used to play movies. an mkv file like a breifcase where you can put multiple layers of video and audio. NOT a codec. It could have multiple layers of audio, and video. This is good for true surround sound and dvd-like menus. It also has other cpu advantages, but theres really no point getting into that.
Now as for conversion.
As of today, there seems to be no way to convert an MKV file to a dvd while MAINTAINING THE HIGH DEFINITION RESOLUTION. Burning in 720p from mkv, right now, isnt possible.
but for you people out there who dont mind burning in 480 (regular dvd, standard definition resolution- 720 x 480 ) than its quite simple. All you need is one simple program. Its called Convert X to DVD by VSO. You can choose for it to fit on a dvd-5 or dvd-9, to get better quality. (dvd-9 is a dual layer, dvd-5 is a regular blank dvd) THATS ALL YOU NEED! the newer versions even burn it for you! conversion takes about an hour, for dual layer add another half to full hour to that. burning is burning, and ur done.
this is for people like people like Daz2. dont talk shit about something you know nothing about. Stupid people like you polute the internet and slow the process of evolution down. I dont understand how people can be as arrogant as you. Calling people noobs because your brain cant comprehend what your hearing.

Docbo Guest | The best programme I have found (and I have used quite a few!) is convertxtodvd...does everything for you. You can pop in a blank dvd..set the prog in motion and leave it...it will burn and eject the dvd when completed..brilliant prog...

lettyann Guest | im just frustrated i dont see why they need to put the movies in an mkv format even if it is a briefcase if you have a movie at 1080p or 720p why put it as an mkv if you cant just burn it and keep your quality it seems pointless why not another format or when the hell will they bring a programme that will burn them and keep the quality

MR. SAUDI LOVES AUDI Guest | What’s HD-DVD? What’s Blu-Ray? When it comes to the next generation of media there is confusion over the differences between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray.
HD-DVD
One of the biggest differences between HD-DVD and a current DVD is the wavelengths of the laser that reads information on the disc. While HD-DVD use 405nm wavelengths laser, DVD use a 650nm wavelength laser. What does this means? The difference in wavelengths allows more information to be stored on a disc. How big are these HD-DVD discs? A single layer HD-DVD has the capacity to store around 15 GB, while a dual layer can store as much as 30 GB. There is also a possible third layer, which can store up to 45 GB.
Blu-Ray
Once again, the difference between Blu-Ray and a current DVD is the wavelengths used to read information. Blu-Ray uses a 405nm wavelength laser. But, there is a critical difference; the surface layer on a Blu-Ray disc is only 0.1nm thick. This thin will allow more data to be stored in each layer. Current layers can hold around 25 GB, there is also research on making these disc four and eight layers, and they would be able to hold from 100GB to 200GB.
However, there are some problems. The production is different from current DVD, and it will be need to change. This will cost more money to the consumer. Since it’s stored on the surface of the disc, early developments were very fragile to scratches and dust.
There is a big debate over who is going to win this war. But one thing is for sure, the true winners will be us - the gamers

lettyann Guest | still any updates on how to burn mkv without converting?????????????
| |
| 22 Feb 2008 06:52 pm |
a guest Guest | I found something incredibly simple that will convert .mkv video format to a more common one, and it’s the last dam thing I would have ever thought — Windows Movie Maker.. it readily a accepted the .mkv format and converted to .wmv format-which Nero accepts. From there on it can be converted by Nero and burned unto DVD disc.
Try it!

“You’re just a stupid leecher, expressing your anger that people arent releasing their movies in a format thats more covenient for you to handle."
1. Don’t attack your potential users. It really makes me hate you instead of your useless format.
2. Your compression is a minority.MKV isn’t going to surpass the efficiency of having AVI. AVI is for quick and easy. If you want THE best quality, quick being a self righteous bitch and buy the fucking DVD.

Fulano Guest | Just use ConvertXToDvd by VSO software. It will do it directly from MKV to DVD. It even has it’s own built in codec

jericho Guest | How to burn an mkv??? c’mon... just image it and burn it!!! It’s simple as that! Make an *.iso image of the *.mkv file and then burn it with nero! I just did that a few minutes ago... and it worked!
One problem... once the mkv file is about 2.4 GB and the dvd has 4.7 GB it some space on the dvd wasted! I didn’t try to make an image of two mkv files... but you can try!
I think you can use any program to make an iso image from mkv file!

JuOn Guest | @jericho
Why in a God’s name you make an ISO of .mkv file ???????
Just burn it as Data Disc with Nero and that’s it.
