http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Video-Players/Gom-Player.shtml
It plays broken files, locked files, and comes with all codecs built-in. I used to use VLC but i think this one has much better UI.

thats right Guest | *****STOP SEARCHING NOW*****
YOU HAVE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE!
dude...this problem is so easy to fix...yeah thats right. The hting isi had htis problem back with WMP 9 and I created a global fix for it when i found out that it wasn’t only avi.'s asthe problem it was also borken/locked/unstable/wrong sized files that were screwin with the media player. All you gotta do is go to google, (sorry i made the prog about a year ago so im too lazy to look for the link) and search for JetFix v1b3 and you should get numerous results that show my prog on their sites, anyway just download it - install it and run it and (its basically a batch file but isnt) VUALA! you will be missing no codecs, it will ilnstall them all in a matter of seconds...the nice thing is that it scans periodically on the internet for any new codecs or video type developements that may have been released and will automatically update your codecs...hope you like!!!!

Gokarter641 Guest | I just captured a concert off a live stream into AVI format and whenever I try to play it, it plays with really choppy audio and keeps alternating back to frames that popped up earlier. If I try to skip ahead into the file, RealPlayer freezes up and crashes.
Does it matter that it’s a 2.41 GB file?
Help!

manifest Guest | I downloaded Kommopman’s FFDSHOW link, but my video software still freezes when I try to play one of those AVI files that are a problem. Other download torrents work great, but not some of these AVI files. Any suggestion on how to use FFDSHOW? thanks.

manifest Guest | anyone help? I’m running into a lot of lol.avi files that do not play inspite of several media player software downloads that play any file extension. I’ve use g-spot and it just states not recognized or supported. Who is able to play these and with what codecs? I’ve downloaded several but no luck. I find the Sopranos especially difficult to get readable downloads. any suggestions? thanks in advance

Hey all;
I’ve got a problem with a certain AVI (?) file that I can’t play.
- When i try to do so with Windows Media player 10, it says: “Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.".
- When i try to play with VLC, no sound and no video comes out, the thing just keeps on moving on. Also, when i click “open file' and browse to the file in question, it says the file is an avi file.
- When i run it through G-spot, it says that it is 'not a valid AVI file', and has 'n.a' for most of the boxes.
- When i tried with Camtasia player (which isn’t a very good avi player in the first place) it says that “Unable to read .... 80044066. The file couldn’t be read, indicating a corrupt file or an unrecognized format.
- If this is relevant, I was downloading a bt file with the entire OC season 1, and now have d/led about 1G. This file is the first one (The Pilot). I really doubt that it is corrupted.
So yeah, I would really appreciate some help.

Wesmo Guest | Ive figured it out. Those of you have been having recurrent problems with avi fils which have been downloaded using a bit torrent client, update your client. I was using the latest “stable” release of BitComet, but when i updated it to the latest beta version of the client, the supposed “completed” movies still had 1mb of data left to transfer.
Problem solved! Easy!
