How to play an AVI file with SRT subtitles?

Hey, I’m having some trouble playing an AVI file with SRT subtitles I downloaded. Usually I just put the srt file in the same folder as the avi, and it plays fine with the DivX player.

For some reason, this time it just won’t work. I’ve tried in VLC player, but no luck. I downloaded VobSub, VSFilter, but none of them are doing the trick. I’ve changed the name of the srt file to the exact same title as the avi file, but still no luck.

Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

i have the same problem. I use VLC on a macbook. help is appreciated.
