bumpbuddy Guest | Hi!
I’ve been trying to burn a dvd with Nero 6. It all went good first when it started but suddenly it just stopped burning and it was stuck. I then tried to burn a data file as I thought I made something wrong creating the dvd-files. But then again it just stopped burning in the middle of it and was stuck. It isn’t the program that get stuck, because the timer is still going.
Please, if anyone have the slightest idea of what’s going on let me know... I don’t want to waste more dvd discs on this...

Beyond that it’d help if you stated what kind of DVD you tried to make (Movie DVD, Data DVD), what media you’re using (DVD+/-R/RW), what brand and model your drive is, and if you’re getting any error messages.

bumpbuddy Guest | Ok.
I tried to create both a Movie DVD and a Data DVD. I’m using Verbatim DataLifePlus DVD+R 16x writing speed. The drive is an LG but I don’t know the model (got it last year so it’s not very old). And I’m not getting any error messages at all, it just stops...

If you’ve lost your manual, you can find out the model of your drive various ways. You could open the case and look on the drive. It’s often printed on there. You can also look in device manager. If you have Windows XP, go to start, run, and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. Look under DVD/CD-ROM drives. One last way (my favorite) is to run the Nero Info Tool, which you can download here. Just unzip and run it, and usually in the upper right corner where it says “current drive” you’ll be able to see your drive model. Once you know the model number, just look for its manual online on the LG site.
Beyond checking if the media is of a recommended brand, you can also try the following.
Perhaps you have the right brand, but bad media (there’s a lot of counterfeits out there these days). Try a burn with a blank DVD+R from the bottom of the batch to see. Try burning at a slower speed.
You can also try diagnosing the media. You can download the Nero Toolkit here http://www.cdspeed2000.com/. Just run it, and do a run of the scandisk, disc quality, and simulated burn tests. And see what they say.
Finally you can try updating the firmware. Sometimes (not often) firmware updates can improve burn compatibility with certain brands of media.
