Cool_Menace Guest | hi guys
needless to say i had the same problem with playing an SVCD.
well after reading many forums like this one and as many hours trying various codecs to play the files with absolutly no luck what so ever.
I finally called it a night as i was going around in circles and getting no where and got some well earned sleep (clear the head sort of thing)
eight hours later back at the screen with hot coffee and fresh brain cells at the ready. ish
five mins later i have the solution
are you ready for this guys and gals
ok this is what you need
1 DVD Power or eqivelent installed.
2 ISOBUSTER Get here (http://www.smart-projects.net/isobuster/)
3 run isobuster goto file - open image file
open - or if on a cd already then pick the drive with the disc in
4 click on MPEG2 folder that will then show you the file called AVSEQ01.MPG - right click on this file and choose (EXTRACT BUT FILTER M2F2 MPEG FRAMES) choose your folder where you want to save the film to
5 when fully extracted go play the film in WMP or what ever player you have.
Thats all folks hope it will be of help and save you guys some time.
Cool Menace

Please help if you can guys?

Ariel Couret Guest | I tried your recommendations FrightFOO but I think there might be codecs still remaining on my comp that I can’t delete. I even reinstalled the old codecs to uninstall them properly. How can I be sure that all the codecs have been removed?

Jaymes Guest | When I try and watch a video file on my laptop, it sometimes reboots briefly displaying a blue DOS like screen. I noticed that my laptop normally reboots when the file is quite large
I have installed ACE Codecs. Is it the codecs that are causing this?

bbbbbbbbb Guest | Hello all
i am a pc technitian, windows has learned to fear me - here is the answer:
(Jaymes answer for u is at the end)
1. don’t install any codec pack (not nimo, not kaza, not tsunami and nothing else)it will mess ur system and then u ll need a pc technitian like me to clean ur system (come to think about it maybe its good for me
2. uninstall all codec packs u already installed from add remove programs - if u have problems try installing the pack again and then uninstalling it - if u still don’t manage to uninstall a codec try the following article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;142731 - if it still doesn’t work u probably have a unique problem try searching google specifically for ur problem or get professional help or reinstall ur system.
3. install FFDSHOW from http://www.dawnload.net/video_software/subtitle_tools/ffdshow.cfm
u can also install AC3Filter (from: http://www.dawnload.net/video_software/codecs_and_filters/ac3filter.cfm) if u have “picture but no audio” problem
REMARK: installing 3ivX might also solve ur problem but i prefer FFDSHOW because it’s easier on ur cpu and it will probably solve your problem even if you have an old machine like pentium 2 or parallel.
now Jaymes: “a blue DOS like screen." usually indicates some hardware or driver problem and not a codec problem - u need to search google for the error u recieve in the “blue DOS like screen” btw its name is “the blue screen of death” - if the blue screen appears just briefly u need to do the following assuming u have windows xp: right click “my computer” and choose properties - advanced - click settings under “start up and recovery” and uncheck “automatically restart” under system failure - btw u can also choose small memory dump over there and use “debugging tools for windows” to open the dump file and get more information about ur problem.
thats all folks - have a nice day

bbbbbbbbb Guest | Correction to my previous reply:
i said:
“REMARK: installing 3ivX might also solve ur problem but i prefer FFDSHOW because it’s easier on ur cpu and it will probably solve your problem even if you have an old machine like pentium 2 or parallel. "
i ment:
REMARK: installing 3ivX might also solve ur problem and also it’s easier on ur cpu and it will probably solve your problem even if you have an old machine like pentium 2 or parallel.
but i prefer FFDSHOW because it opens more formats then 3ivx so its better if u r using a new machine.

Highlander Guest | This problem is not related to codecs at all, atleast not for those that are experiencing this issue after updating to XP SP2.
The green screen is actually a problem with your video drivers, and something in SP2.
This same problem also happens in quicktime, and the same issue causing this, will also effect some older games and programs (A few architect programs, also StarTrek: Armada1 are a few that are effected)
This will only be fixed once Microsoft and the video card makers (Nvidia/ATI) decide to actually do something about it. And so far it appears as if they are ignoring the problem. I urge everyone that is having these problems to e-mail them and tell them to make a fix. Especially Microsoft, its their OS that has everything so screwed up...

bbbbbbbbb Guest | Highlander
its true that there is a bug with xp sp2 and divx - you can also find a fix for this bug in www.divx.com
however most of the green screens are not because of this bug but because of a codec problem
just follow my instructions and you will see that they solve the problem in more then 90% of the cases.
there is no problem with the operating system or the display adapters well not in that matter anyway ...

4NIC8TOR Guest | The 3ivx worked but for some reason the audio didn’t match up so I uninstalled it and then installed ONLY ffdshow and now it works like a champ! No green screen and the audio matches up too.

you da man,
your solution worked.
At first I tried what FrightfoO said to do but that didn’t work at all. Then I tried out Temux’s solution and it worked like a charm. Now all of my files work with no problems at all. No more green stuff on the screen keeping me away from my pron.
