I am new to all of this. I have downloaded so many codecs and fixers of this and that my download file looks like a codec graveyard. In this downloading some things have been fixed but I am still confused as to what is the best way to have it all installed. I keep reading “uninstall everything and install..." Someone please email me to let me know what I should do. What is the best to have on my computer? It' brand new and I feel as though I am killing it. Many thanks!

That was great! I uninstalled everything and lashed on 3ivx or whatever you call it and BAM! it’s all good! I don’t know if the other way would have wourked, but I don’t need to find out. I just picked the one with the shortest number of steps and the least confusion - I know nofunck about computers. Anyway 3ivx worked for me. Cheers man - even though you did post this 6 months ago and probably don’t check this thread anymore!

Not sure if anyone still cares but I did what Frightfo0 said, and everything is FIXED!

I think what some people missed is that you have to uninstall EVERY other codec pack. I had the green screen problem and went and installed heaps of codec packs, which problem created more problems without solving anything.

So just uninstall everything, and use the 3ivx (sic) program Frightfo0 suggested.

All i did was uninstall all codecs, reboot, then installed the 3ivx codec, and the latest ffdshow codec, and Bob’s your sisters nipple ring...everything works, no green screen anymore.

Remember that the REBOOT process is crucial after uninstalling all codecs...if you cant uninstall it from add/remove programs, go into program files and delete the folders.

P.S. there should be absolutely no need for any other codecs than ffdshow, and 3ivx....unless you download alot of porn clipswink, i would suggest downloading something like GSPOT (google it) to find out what codec is needed for any other video files that wont work with the above mentioned codecs, also a good media player is the VLC player imho (the good thing about it, it doesnt even use codecs, so you wont even need ffdshow, or 3ivx or any codec for that matter)...peace, nine fingers.
Hopefully this info is helpful...if not, feel free to verbally abuse me in this thread!

Wel,, I used 3ivx and it was all sweet until after 30 days a message popped up telling me that it was no longer free and I had to register it! Stun on me! Anyway, I started afresh, used only ffdshow (and possibly a nemo codec pack) and everything is working sweet now. Haven’t had a problem in 9 months...

Thank you very much Temux. I had been having problems with playback on some divx’s and other related files for some time and I had gone through many different codecs and codec packs to try to fix it. After uninstalling all the codecs I had installed and following your instructions everything works fine now.

Thanks again - as far as I am concerned you are a god smiley

Hey, I have been getting that “green screen” also when I play mpg, avi, etc. Now I have been getting those damn lines too! Now I have been having trouble getting to sites on the Internet. I have to click refresh at least ten times to make a site come up. All of this happened when after I installed a new AGP video adapter (NVidia GeForce FX 5700LE). I did not make any changes to my codecs or anything, I just kept what I had. Will the solutions posted here solve my problems as well?

Just wanted to say thanks to FrightfoO. I was also getting this green screen. I uninstalled NIMO Pack, DivX, XviD codecs. Then went to(http://www.3ivx.com/download/index.html) and installed 3ivX and BOOM! PROBLEM IS GONE.

THANKS

I was told that if I go to Device Manager, under Sound, Video, and Game Controllers, I can uninstall all my video codecs. Is that true? Also, can I still use WMP? It looks like 3ivx has other recommendations for media players. Do I use one of those instead of WMP?
