I use video clips to enhance my instruction by inserting them into my PowerPoint presentations. We recently obtained a dedicated computer for making our own video presentations. Currently I have a dvd from a manufacturer that has granted permission to use clips from the disc. The problem is that I am unable to use them because the extensions (vob, bup and ifo) cannot be read (or whaterver the problem is). This same problem has occurred with other cds and dvds. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

vob, bup, and ifo files are suggestive of a movie dvd. If you browse a movie dvd with windows explorer you’ll find those kind of files. To play the dvd you’d need dvd software (powerdvd, windvd, etc), or some alternate software (media player classic, videolan).
If you want to extract the data for editing, then it’s more complicated. You would need dvd software first, then you’d have to rip the dvd with a program like smartripper (the vob’s are generally encrypted, and ripping refers to copying the contents of the disc and decrypting it). After that’s done you can do further editing (clip, cut, etc) with a program like flaskmpeg or tmpgenc.
