I’m wondering how I can burn the above listed file types onto a dvd-r disc.
I have got to to work on my dvdp alyer before using convertXtoDVD but only makes the files small enough for 2 episodes per DVD.
I am now attempting to use DIKO which makes the files smaller so i can put 4 episodes on a disc. DIKO seems to work well and does give smaller files but i can’t seem to burn the files it makes.
I have tried Nero (DVD-video) but that bairly burns anything and stops. I’ve also tryed DVDshrinks back-up function and ImgBurn but none of them work.
I was wondering maybe i am burning at the wrong speed, disc says it can do 1/16X and my dvd drive doesn’t say anything so I’m not sure.
DIKO gives me loads of output files:
.mpg, .mpv, .wmv, .avs files
disc.iso
aswell as an authoring file containing .vob, .bup and .ifo files

“Fourth, understand that simply copying the computer files from a DVD to a recordable DVD often produces a disc that won’t play in a set-top DVD player, since the files have to go in specific order and specific places on the disc. Some DVD writing software recognizes the files and places them correctly, but other software doesn’t. In other words, you can’t just copy the .IFO and .VOB files [...]”
By computer files they mean IFO BUP and VOB files, along with the directory structure (VIDEO_TS etc.). (Data DVD).

I’m surprised the DVD-Video function in Nero didn’t work. Did you get any error message? Does it hang?
If you’re really lost, read through this guide. It’s for an older version of Nero (6), but I think the concepts should be fairly similar.
One other diagnostic utility you should run is Nero Info Tool. You may already have it in your start menu, but if not, you can download the latest version from here
http://www.nero.com/enu/support-nero8-tools-utilities.html (second 'More Details and Download'), unzip it, insert a disc into the drive, and run it. This should tell the characteristics of the drive (what it can read and write), as well as any information on the disc.

What it seams to be doing is burning the lead-in then giving me a “burn failed” error.
I was thinking of trying DVDflick to convert and burn it would that work?
The Nero info thing says my dvd r/rw is 48x and should be able to handle - and + dvd’s aslong as afew others.
Thanks,
Travis

First before you do anything I just want to make sure everything is set up properly. Based on this I just want to ask first how you set up the IDE channel the drive is on (master? slave? cable select? are there other devices on that channel?). It’s often recommended to have CD/DVD burners as master on the secondary IDE channel. Also, is DMA mode on? If you don’t know, go to start, run, and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. It’s under your IDE/ATAPI controllers. Look under the primary and secondary IDE channels, and make sure everything is setup to enable DMA (NOT PIO).
With that out of the way, you should next check what media you’re using. DVD+/-RW doesn’t have universal compatibility like CD-RW (at least not yet). Manufacturers still put out lists of recommended brand media for their drives in the manual! I see you’re using an NEC ND-3500AG (DVD+/-RW). Go to this page, and download the list for the ND-3500a (it’s in pdf format). Is your media one of the recommended brands? If not you should consider switching. If it is one of the recommended brands, there’s a chance that it’s a bad batch. Try burning one of the discs from the bottom of the batch to see if that works better. If that fails, try getting another recommended brand. If that also fails, I would probably suspect it’s the drive, and not the media.
As a last step, you can also attempt to get a firmware update. It’s at the NEC site here
http://support.necam.com/Optical/nd3500a/
BE SURE TO GET THE RIGHT FIRMWARE FOR YOUR DRIVE!!! You could ruin it if you try loading the firmware from the wrong model!!!
Beyond that, I’m not sure what to suggest beyond perhaps a lens cleaning kit, or contacting NEC directly.

Should I just buy a brand that is on the list then?
