I’ve tried all the other solutions for this problem. None of them worked, until I tried erikku’s solution.
It seems the answer is to install the latest yahoo messenger. Worked like a charm.

Thanks again erikku…

to get the audio to work on YIM on vista, i found this site thanks to mr_tech_guide’s [and valcon] post: http://www.bytescribe.com/downloads/tsp_codec_install.exe

All you have to do is download and then install. Works wonders.

i’ve been thinking about getting Vista for some time. After reading this, I may reconsider. I’m using Windows 95 still and am very happy with the performance. I do have quite a bit of codec problems though. I view a lot of “underground” gay porn which seems to carry with it, a slew of incompatibility problems with codecs. Not necessarily the pay homosexual sites, but certainly the pirate material. Will Vista run on a 486 processer? I have recently upgraded to 128 meg of ram so i don’t really think that will be a problem.

http://www.freecreed.com/vistavoice << for vista users, you follow that page, IT WILL WORK, that is yahoo 8 and above, they even have a link to yaho0 messenger 9 beta. I didnt need that fix, the codec install plus reboot did the job in vista@@

I downloaded messenger beta 9, did tcp_install and now it comes up with “There was a problem with the voice server. Attempting to reconnect."

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN??

this works with my laptop displaying exactly the same message as yours does...download this codec tsp_codec_install. if your messenger is active close it, install the codec , run messenger and try chat... voila..
