Nero not seeing my avi files

I used to be able to open Nero (7 premium) click “make data dvd” then select avi files and burn it to disc. Now when I open the file that the avi is in Nero doesnt recognize it as a file, when I change the setting to “all files” the avi file appears so I click on it, then another window pops up and says “unexpected file format”

Any ideas?
