trying to split wmv

hey,, i think im able to play wmv files. im on a windows 98 first edition. my problem is im trying to split wmv files into smaller ones. no matter what video splitting program i use.. it says i need to update mpeg 43 decoder or something.. and it always sends me to microsoft to download wmfdist.exe. something about windows media environment 9. it wont let me run that wmfdist.exe file cause it says i need 98 2nd edition.. is there a way i can just download the codecs or whatever i need so i can split wmv files on 98 first edition?

For the record, what program are you using to split your wmv files? (I think asfcut is the best of its kind, even though it’s command-line, but that’s just me)
It appears the program requires the Windows Media 9 environment to operate, which won’t install since you have Windows 98 First Edition. What you can do is get the Windows Media 7 environment instead. (If it’s asfcut you’re using make sure you’re using version 3.92.07, not 3.92.09)
