Are the contents you’re trying to view DRM-protected (digital rights management)? Did the problem occur before or is it new (aka could you play the files before)? Are you using Service Pack 2? Is your firewall on? And finally does Windows Media Player give you any error messages?

Jessica Guest | First of all, Thanks..Here are the answers to your question.
My internet connection is DLS. It’s not the file i am trying to play. My window media player is working perfectly fine. It is just that when i try to watch a video from the internet(Websites such as yahoo!Launch or videos from other websites) i can’t play that video. I never have my firewall on and i do have ps2 service pack. If i try to play the video on my RealPlayer then it works, but if i try to play the video on that website with window media player i can’t. Hope you have enough information...Thanks!!!

Second I’d probably check your internet zone settings. If they’re set to high it’s possible you may not be able to play the file. You’d find your security zone settings under tools, internet options, then security tab. The internet zone is selected by default and hopefully it’s set to medium or something like that (medium’s kind of unsafe by today’s standard - about a year ago it would be considered ok though). The other thing to check for is cookies. Some sites won’t work if you don’t enable cookies, and you might click for a specific player, or a specific speed (56k, 300k) it will keep asking you for it because it can’t write the cookie to save the info. If you suspect that’s the problem, then just turn on cookies temporarily, or add launch.com to your list of sites that should accept cookies. To access your cookies controls go to tools, internet options, then privacy tab. The edit button allows you to set cookie permissions by url. There’s probably other possible causes for your problem, but at this point I’m stumped.
