I have looked all over to find this but have been unsuccessful thus far... Here is my dilemma...

I have a few ISO files I have been working with transferring the good all VHS to digital. I have been able to create the AVI files and I have no problems burning these to DVDs. I also have MagicISO and Alcohol 120%. Using Roxio I can create an ISO image of the DVD Project from the AVI. However, all I want to do is play the ISO file itself. That is, I want to double click on the file and have it play on a video player (don’t care which: WMP, WinDVD, ect).

I have a modded XBOX which has a new prog that when I select the ISO movies I can simply tell it to play the file. I do not want to MOUNT the ISO and I want to avoid burning the ISO as well. I have a “server” computer that holds all my media and I would like to be able to play these files on my flat screen directly from the server.

Any help would be GREATLY, IMMENSLY appreciated!

Thanks,
Rico

Your post isn’t very clear, but from what I understand:
you have VHS’s, which you capture to AVI. Then you set out to author MPEG-2 DVD’s (like the movies sold in store, the ones that has folders like VIDEO_TS and show VOB, IFO, and BUP files when viewed in Windows Explorer)
Except at the last step, instead of burning the DVD, you create an ISO image of the DVD.
If any of what I interpreted is wrong, please correct me!

Off the top of my head, I believe VLC Media Player can play such ISO images (http://www.videolan.org).
There are some other suggestions here; one of them mentions mounting (which you don’t want to do), another associating ISO files with WMP (though it won’t work if you don’t have an MPEG-2 decoder), and yet another says to open the ISO straight from the software DVD player (WinDVD, PowerDVD, etc.) - I don’t know if the last two work so you’d have to try them to see.

Sorry if I made it confusing... This issue just happened because of the Xbox!!!
I modified my Xbox so I could use it as a computer. It is now able to connect to my network and play all my music and video files. It is almost like a computer, but I did not install a keyboard or mouse YET! Long-story-short, when I tested the connection to my network with the Xbox I noticed the it was able to “see” the ISO files in the same folder. I selected the ISO file and “pressed A” (like double-clicking on it to open) and they play just like an AVI, MPEG, MP3, AAV, MOV and all other media.

My idea was simply to create the movies. Then, because I wanted to keep them organized, decided to create the ISO files for each, which I meant to burn to DVDs. I was using Alcohol 120 to mount the files and watch them on my office PC, but then changed my mind. Also, one ISO file is easier to handle than multiple files and folders for each movie. I realized that I could have simply left the files in the computer and stream them to a wireless computer connected to the family room TV (WinXP MCE 2005 with Plasma screen) like I did with the Xbox. The ISO file is smaller and easier to work with than folder/files for the movies. All I wanted to do was create a file association for the ISO so that when I am on my computer in the family room I can open Media Center, select the movies and just play them!!!
Easier than changing discs and looking multiple through folders.

I have tested the VLC media player and it works like I want on the office PC. I will try it out tonight on the MCE computer and let you know!

Thanks,
Rico
