How can I add the codec and resolution to filename

I want to automatically change or rename the filename of my video files to include info about the codec and resolution:

MyFile.mpg -> MyFile[mpeg2 VCD].mpg

or like MyVideo[divx 300x600].mpeg

Other properties would be useful, such as 4CC, as would a batch feature.

Their must be software for this out there (I use tagscanner for MP3s)... It would beat cut-paste!

You should e-mail people who wrote videoinspector, gspot, or avicodec. They could have batch files or unused pieces of code lying around somewhere and put something together for you.
One of the listed features on the gspot page says “multi-file (batch) processing support”, but I haven’t been able to find documentation for it. I also know you can drag multiple video files into avicodec for processing and print out the result. The trick would be to add a rename feature.

That does sound like the solution.

I am not a programmer though and I do not speak video-ese; anyone want take up the call?
