AVI Not Playing

I downloaded an AVI from BitTorrent (so I’m reasonably sure it’s a good file, many others have the same file), and it’s not playing. The error I get is “file type not supported”. I have just about every codec you can get, and none of them work. I loaded up GSpot and it said that it was not a valid AVI file. Under the 4CC, it says “N/A” (along with just about every other category). Could my file be corrupt? Or am I doing something wrong? Oh yeah, the AVI is over 230 megs, so I don’t know if that may have anything do do with it. Is it possible for me to convert it to another format, or burn it directly to a CD or something? Thanks for the help!

gspot should be pretty good at handling whatever you throw at it so long as it’s an avi. The file could be so corrupted as to be unreadable. The other possibility is it’s not an avi, but a renamed file. At that point it’s anyone’s guess what its contents are (video, image, data, text, other?). I’d just feed the file into as many applications as I can to see if any can read it (winzip, winrar, isobuster, media player classic, virtualdub, wordpad, etc)
