I have a Mac (OSX Leopard) and I too am new to this whole DivX thing. I downloaded a player and that worked great up until a couple days ago. Now it won’t allow me to play sound and when I follow the links here or try to download an AC3 adapter or filter it just downloads an EXE file and opens to unreadable text. What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it? It’s so frustrating!

You should get A52 instead. It’s the QuickTime for Mac component for decoding AC3 audio.

The build instructions are a bit complicated if you’re unfamiliar with the command line, but it’s doable.

If you’re lazy you can just get Perian instead. (It’s kind of a bundle of QuickTime components, which also includes A52 I believe).

PS: .exe are executables for DOS/Windows!
