recording off a vcr?

i guess im old and dumb, how do u record off a vcr? i have a vhs tape in my hand..i want to tape something on tv

Are you trying to transfer the contents of the vhs to your computer or are you just trying to work the vcr?
If it’s the latter, and you don’t know how to operate a vcr, I suggest you look up the user guide or manual that came with it, or get a friend to help you. That’s off-topic for this board.
If it’s the former case, you would need to buy an analog capture card. Many TV cards have the feature, since you would need to plug an analog source (vcr, antenna, cable, etc) into the card to get any video signal.
http://www.videohelp.com/capturecards has a good list. You can probably find any of those for 50 to 200 dollars on ebay (or maybe even less). Don’t worry about the thousand-dollars cards; they’re for broadcast professionals. I’ve personally had good experiences with the ati all-in-wonder series of cards (though they may be more than what you need).
