Error in Audio Compression Codec

HI guys,

Need some help, Big time!!
I Seem to be facing a strange problem on my win me laptop.

There is no Playback when I play any music(in win amp/real/windowmedia player) or the default sounds from the sounds and multimedia.

However when I run the Dx diag, All the test run sucessfully and I am able to hear a faint sound in the relevant pages.

In the Sound and Multimedia setting in the control panel The Video Compression codecs and the Audio Compression codec are showing a Red symbol in front of them on the devices page.

The sound card installed on the system is Realtek AC97, and audio and video drivers installed are as follows

I am having the same problem on an ME system with the same AC97 chip. I hope someone can solve this for us.

Hey there I had the same problem,
For MCE install Showshifeter trial version. It installs a codec for MCE that enables sound for live TV and DVD playback from within MCE.
My problem now is that I get a slpit second pause every 20-30 seconds in the sound from MCE when playing DVD’s
