I have ended the hassle of encoding AVI to DVD. I bought a Toshiba DVD player with DIVX codec. Bought at Costco... $80 for model SD-K850 (HDMI, upconverts to 1080i), $50 for standard hookups model.

All you do is burn files to a DVD, put disc in player, and hit play. It’s a beautiful thing. Fit hours of video in .avi format on one DVD.

I need help. I downloaded a movie from scrape-torrent and all that stuff. When it finished, it was in AVI format. It won’t play in Windows Media Player, and I have all the codecs. The file is xxx.xxx.01.DVDrip.AC3-5.1[Eng]-Bajer. I didn’t give the actual movie name. But, what can I do to get it to work?

Right, I had this same problem. By the way, the answer is already given to you by Shadow5731, K-Lite codec pack, it’s a load of codecs for palying different kinds of media on your PC, The problem is that your codecs are out dated, and the ones used to make the avi videos were newer, therefore they wont play with your older ones, or the codecs were just not included with your PC. Just dowload it from somewhere, It solved my problem. I used http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm . Just install it, and all your AVI files should play, and any AVI files will also be able to be burned using Nero or whatever you use. Also, if you downloaded your avi video from a bitorrent programme, make sure it is not currupt, and fully downloaded, and not 99.9% done. I have also heard VLC palyer will do the trick (Download at: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) I haven’t tried that myself, so i don’t know if it will work too.

If you are using VLC media player, do you have to have the latest codecs installed to play movies on there? Or is it included with the download...
