Phill again. Just realised i downloaded them off a program called MP3-Xtreme. You can set it to search for audio or video ao i set it to video and chose from the list all the avi. files. Now when tryng to play them on Media player it doesn’t work. Is this because there only audio files really? I REALLY WANNA WATCH 24. Dam my parents for not getting Sky!

Hi there ! That VLC Media Player hint did the trick for me. Thanx a lot !!! I had the same problem, G-Spot said everything was OK, but I had only sound but no picture. VLC played the file fine, so I recommend everybody to try that one before downloading codec after codec for nothing.

Can anybody please help? I’ve looked on the forums and couldn’t find this topic so I’m sorry if I’m asking something that has already been discussed. I have some .avi files that I got off of BitTorrent that I play with VLC Media Player. I want to burn these .avi files to DVD but when I try to they don’t play, and show up either as green screen or static. I’m guessing this is because VLC Media Player just throws codecs at it and plays it fine, but then how do I get the files themselves to be okay .avi files to burn to DVD. I’m using Nero 6 Ultra Edition, usually NeroVision Express. Does anyone have suggestions on either how to convert the .avi files to better .avi files or to burn codecs onto the DVD? Any help would be appreciated.

Apparently, this problem continues. I have the latest VLC player. Been using VLC for ages. d/l and burn avi files every day from DC. First d/l from BT is a useless waste of time. None of the avi files will play in VLC or any other player. I have more codecs installed than I have teeth, fingers and toes combined. I should be able to play anything. Unfortunately, even AVICodec can’t open these suckers. Says they aren’t avis.

Why do people seed worthless shit like that?

Lo all

I think this may help i’ve had a few problems with .avi files and with .fov.avi files. Fov to my understanding is a compiler and compiles using the latest Xvid codecs available. Currently this is DivX codec v6.1.1 for Windows XP/2000 from

http://www.divxmovies.com/codec/

As long as I continue to upgrade the codecs as and when they are released, I have found no problem with playing a .avi or a .fov.avi in any player I have installed, which includes media player, vlc, nero showtime, my PVR player, real player, power DVD, etc..

As for converting to DVD I find nero isn’t always very good and personally use DivxToDvd.

Hope any or all of this helps!

Hey. I’ve a problem along the same lines.

Used BitTorrent to download all of the Futurama avi files. It isn’t finished yet but some files seem complete as it’s doing them in order.

No program will recognise them as AVIs EXCEPT VLC Media Player which plays them. Sort of. The played files appear as wierd, spliced clips. GSpot, AVICodec, Win MediaPlayer, DivX Player all fail to recognise files as AVIs. Has BitTorrent not finished with the file, are they worthless crap or should I do something else?

Any ideas or advice?

Someone above wrote, 'why do people seeed shit files?' Well, if I made my living out of copyrighted material, I’d consider wasting your time with promises of great things like 'Futurama - Entire DVD Rip' and putting 150MB phony files online. Cheeky Monkeys...

Jackalus : You’re files are appearing spliced because the download isnt finished yet. Bittorrent DOES NOT download files in order. It may appear this way but this is the same for music as well (sound spliced and jump around). Let your download finish and try it out....

bittorrent sometimes /does/ download things in order, from start to end. This isn’t an exact order, as mentioned, which is why some of the downloads might be screwed up. I would try another player or two (vlc is a good one to try) to ensure it isn’t a codec issue, but you should probably just wait for the download to complete.

If anybody knows more about this phenominon, I’m interested; it’s really annoying when I see all files in a collection are zeroed except the first few, which are all (except one) within a few kbytes of completion.

Lo all

Can’t tell you much about the phenomenon, but I assume it’s to keep you seeding as long as possible. Personally I use G3 client and then I AM able to select the download orderof multiple file torrents. Also you can choose to select individual files and avoid all the tracker.txt files or the help.txt’s or really any file I don’t need or want. If you want to check out G3 then the link is:

Hope this helps

That ruins the nature of bittorrent. First off, the text files don’t matter, as they get downloaded in a few seconds on the slowest connection (they’re all really small, like 4k, which is two seconds on dial-up). Secondly, it makes hosting (“seeding”wink significantly worse, since there is not a good distribution of the later files. Read the FAQ on the official bittorrent site and you’ll see that bittorrent only works because different people need different (random) parts of the whole - downloading in order makes this just as fast as mirrored http transactions.

I should clarify some things - I’m probably downloading the same futurama torrent as mentioned above, and my client is the curses-based bittornado (btlaunchmanycurses.bittornado in Debian). I have not had the start-to-end issue for many months (or years?).

The reason I said I was annoyed is because it is likely the reason for the download going so slowly, not because I don’t want the first season.

g3torrent looks really cool, like azureus but easier to spell and happily not java-based. However, I need a console app to run in gnu-screen, so I’m stuck with ncurses-based apps like bittornado, the bittorrent python scripts, or rtorrent, which I intend to try soon.
