I went to the site and got the codec, but now my media player keeps searching for it to download. How do I tell my computer that I already have it, and to *use* it?

Hey Ned, my problem is that I have sound but no video on some avi files I have downloaded from WinMx. Media player connects to a codec server, which one I don’t know but it sends a request for a codec and comes back with 'error downloading codec'.
