Hello. Sorry if my question has been answered already a million times, But I don’t have zillions of hours to search!

Can anyone recommend the best codec for storing ripped dvds on a hard drive? I have a large DVD collection that I am burning to disk for easy access on my Mac Mini. Here are some of my requirements:

1) Must be able to be played in quicktime
2) Mac compatible
3) Good resolution! I have a LCD projector, and want the res to be as close as possible to the original
4) Conversion time! I tried to convert some of my movies into H.264 , and it was going to take like 32 hours+...uhh, no thanks.
5) Convert back to DVD burnable format if necessary...this one is not as important, but hey, if your gonna wish...

I am currently keeping my movies as VOB/IFO files, and this works OK, but I am wondering if there is another codec that might conserve HDD space better. If I could get them from 4GB+ down to even around 2GB without sacrificing too much quailty, that would be great!

So maybe I’m dreaming with this request, but you never know unless you ask. Thanks in advance.
