I need this codec but can’t find it anywhere.
Its acronym is MSVC, and anywhere I go links point to the microsoft website, but when I do a search for it I get null.
Please if anyone has it, or knows where I can get it let me know >_____

Regular Rep: 2 Joined: 20 Nov 2004 Posts: 1,189 | Microsoft Video 1 (fourcc CRAM, MSVC, or WHAM) usually comes bundled with the Windows Operating System. In Windows 95, 98, and Me, it may not be there if you didn’t check the right options during installation.
Here’s something to try if you have Windows 98 - it may also work under Windows 95 and Me:
Go to control panel, go to add/remove programs, click the windows setup tab, double click on multimedia, then make sure the video codecs box is checked. If it’s not then check it. You may be asked for your Windows 98 CD.
I don’t know of a fix for Windows 2000 or XP, since the file should be installed standard. Maybe run sfc (Windows File Protection) and restore msvidc32.dll into your system32 folder?
If all else fails just open the file with QuickTime Player. Amazingly it can handle Microsoft Video 1. (I reckon this is from the days Microsoft and Apple used to get along).

xarmenx Guest | the problem im having is not playing a specific movie, but a movie in a video game (the intro).
So I can’t play the game unless I have this codec, and I am on xp. I contacted microsoft support, so hopefully they will reply sometime in the next 2 days, thank you for your help nonetheless.
If someoen else has a better suggestion Im all ears !

These steps assume you either don’t have the proper information in your registry to associate the fourcc with the codec file or the codec file is missing/not in the right location.
Run the registry editor. Go to start, run, then type regedit and press enter. Then navigate to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Drivers32. Make sure that on the left pane Drivers32 is highlighted. Scroll down on the right. You will notice a bunch of vidc.blahblahblah entries (just to familiarize yourself with the pattern). Now go to edit, new, string value. A string value will appear at the bottom right with name New Value #1. Right click it, and choose rename. Rename it vidc.msvc (if it says you can’t do that that means the value’s already there, then just skip the next step and delete the key instead - right click New Value #1 and choose delete). Then double click vidc.msvc and for value data type msvidc32.dll. Now search your hard disk and/or windows xp cd (do an advanced search, and include hidden and system files) for msvidc32.dll. When you find it, right click it and choose copy. Then go to my computer, go to your c: drive, go to your windows folder, and go to your system32 folder, and click on edit and choose paste. (If it says destination same as source, or asks for confirmation to overwrite that means the file was already there in the first place, so just choose no)

Someone Guest | I want to play the game too but i haven’t the codec or i don’t know. I have done everything you’ve said annonymous. but it didn’t work. i don’t know what to do. (sorry for my english i’m a german) lol

I stumbled on this thread and I also have this error. I have an .avi file that wont playback video, it will playback audio though(other .avi’s playback fine). I have all the files mentioned above in the thier right places, but no help. The error comes up when trying to view the .avi with Win Media Player 10; Quicktime 6 and other players.

giggity Guest | i tryed everything here and its still doesnt work. when i launch the game it gives me an error that says “The requested lookup key was not found in any active activation context” and then i get the microsoft video error. help please

kimora Guest | same problem i have windows xp, my vid card is a 9000/9100 and im currently using the omega driver i downloaded a file that is supposed to give me all those codecs i did what anom said, and still same error (i had this game working before and got it working, i think i had this error before but somehow i got it to work....it jsut doesnt bloody like me now

I tried the mega codec, i tried to overwrite msvidc32.dll, i even tried deleting all the .dat in data folder. None of them work.... haih...

The solution I posted should work for Vista 32-bit (you still need to get your hands on the dll though). In Vista 64-bit the registry keys and folders are changed around a little.
Read here for more details.
I couldn’t find the link for where the Windows 64-bit vs. Windows 32-bit system files go, but you should find it on google.
If you need more instructions just get back to this thread I’ll post more instructions.
