Running Windows XP Home with 2.4GHZ AMD processor and 1G RAM. I am trying to convert a 40 minute AVI file into DVD format so I can watch it on a normal TV. After converting around 25 minutes of the file my PC shutsdown with no warning or error messages. It does not matter which program I use - Nero DVDSanta etc. I get the same result. I can play the AVI file perfectly from end to end with Windows Media Player.
On another PC I can perform the conversion no problem using the same tools, same version etc.
Any Ideas?

You might as well switch to this video to DVD burner. It is very powerful, flexible and easy to use.

AVI2DVD also does a great job, with very few problems.

It will even convert PAL to NTSC and NTSC to PAL.
