anvil Guest | I have some fraps videos from counter-strike that I made. I want to convert them from the fraps codec to some other video format, so I can put them on the web. I have tried serveral programs, and none of them can open the video files. I need to find a way to either open them with a video editing program, or convert them to another format then open them with an editing program. please help me if you know how to do this.

RookieMaster Guest | In my experience, the most easiest way to cut viedoclips u recorded with Fraps is the following:
Organize yourself VirtualDub (www.virtualdub.org)
Then load the huge fraps clip into VD, choose Options -> Compression and select DivX codec or whatever codec u want.
After that, go File -> Save as avi and VD will compress the file into a small .avi with DivX Codec.
NOTE: If VD doesn’t work, install the newest DivX codec, then VD should work properly.
I can easily load the output .avi from VD into any viedo/audio editing program (From Windows Movie MAker 2 to Adobe Premiere ....it works :P

anvil Guest | yeah sure,
I have found that the easiest way to compress/convert fraps videos was to use windows media encoder which can be found at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/default
Hope this helps

gik Guest | @ crazy halo killa
some way to restore some “shits” from windows registry is simply to pull out the bios battery and then put it back again... watch out for any other restores for other programs )

Olly Guest | Yeah, I’m getting the same problems. I’ve been trying all different DivX codecs and it always comes out low quality. The people at FRAPS should at least try to do something about their compression.

THEMASTER Guest | I too, am having problems converting the files. The best is the “STOIK” video converter, but you can also try Visifly, Visicrop, and I think “Magic Video Converter”. The “magic” one doesn’t work that well with large files, though.

snakefactory Guest | You do realize that FRAPS has nothing to do with compression. These files are captured in real time with zero compression. They are exact frame copies of what you’ve been capturing. Real time capture does not have time to compress without special hardware.
If you want high quality you have live with larger file sizes.

JD2555 Guest | snakefactory = dum dum
we dont have to live with larger files.
there are SOFTWARE we can use to compress the files AFTER we finish recording.
