how do I change the resolution on my MP4's for you tube?

Grab my camera, plug into the computer and hey hey. But something has changed. Now when i upload, the framing is all wrong and only half the movie is shown. I imagine this is to do with the resolution. How do I change it? It seems to do it all automatically. I searcged the site for help, but doesnt say HOW you change the resolution. Anyone??? Thanks
