schmucksky Guest | Hi from melbourne australia. First of all l want to say that l dont know much about computers or computer terms/jargon.
Anyway i’m having big problems trying to play old sierra games, like 'return to krondor' at the moment. I have other games l want to play like thge kings quest series, leisure suit larry, and gabriel knight.
Last week l installed (with success) 'return to krondor', but l am unable to run the game. The message that l get states INDEO VIDEO PLAYBACK, and that l need a current indeo video driver,(indeo driver), and it suggests that l visit the ligos site, but you have to pay, so i’m trying to avoid that. So l sent 3 messages to windows xp newsgroups but they were unable to help me, they suggested that l download a patch called 327979 so l downloaded and installed that aswell and active x, and then l get a message saying that the file l am trying to install is allready there, or that a newer one is allready on my harddrive so theres no need to install this one.
I should note l installed windows service pack 2 last week, but l don’t know if that could be the problem.
Another question l want to ask is will l be able to play all my old sierra games, or are there like 1000 other problems with playing old games on windows xp?
I thought l’d just say that im using windows xp home edition (if thats any use).
I really would be very grateful if someone could answer my queries.
P.S. sorry for the long typing.

Microsoft has been bundling the indeo codec since Windows 95, but for some unknown reason they pulled the plug after Windows XP Service Pack 1. Installing an old (free) version of Indeo should do the trick.

If this link suddenly dies, just google for iv5setup.exe.
