Inputting a "VCR" to a PC

My problem is this. I have an audio tape that I want to put on the computer, but don’t know how to do it. It plays at a faster-than-normal rate, so the only machine that will play it is the one that recorded it to begin with. I have this set up like you would attach a VCR to your computer. However, I don’t know to access the tape and turn it into a usable file. Can anyone help?
