nmsconsultoria Guest | Hello,
I have been trying for 6 months to resolve this problem: I can no longer encode AVI files using Nero (my usual app) or TMPGEnc. GSpot says I have the codec but cannot render with the error message:
DirectShow was unable to render the file. Following is the error it reported:
0x80040265: VFW_E_UNSUPPORTED_STREAM - Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing codecs but am not very knowledgeable about how to do this. I uninstalled nimo at the time and then deleted some dlls etc in C:\Windows\System32. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Nero at each stage. The problem predates my installing SP2. I cam across a forum where a couple of people resolved a related problem with the same GSpot error message by reinstalling directx 9B, but I have version C and can’t go back to try this solution out.
Can anyone help, I am at my wits end.
Thanks. | |

practic Guest | Hi,
I have the same problem and it seems to be a “bug” in DirectX 9c. I’m afraid that complete OS reinstall is necessary. Well, I’m going to try that tool first - http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4347.html,
but I doubt it’ll work.

nmsconsultoria Guest | practic,
may all your descendants live long and happy lives... you are truly heaven sent... halleluhah!! praise the lord! ...
phew! suddenly my problems are all resolved. It is so nice to have my computer back and Nero encoding avi’s again, even if I did go out and buy a new divx-enabled dvd player in the meantime which plays 99% of avi’s without having to turn them into vcd’s.
what I did, by the way, was use Directx Happy Uninstall (not an entirely straightforward program given that I had to separately download, choose a path for and install the backup files), which replaces whatever you have with directx 8.1, then (as Nero still wasn’t working) I searched for directx 9.0b on google (also, not as straightforward to find as you might think) and installed that and presto, Nero is working again.
Anyway, am off to spread the good news through a few forums I haunted over last year.

Helen Guest | Hi, guys,
I’ve downloaded the Boilsoft AVI to VCD SVCD DVD Converter v1.49, but it seems not working, when I click “Convert”, it shows “Failed”, and saying “No Input Data”.
Hope you can help me on this.
Thanks. | |

MVH Guest | Hi guys.
Really got a lot of help from reading through these messages.
I recently had a new hard drive installed in which i installed directx 9.0c.
Anyway copied a few avi files from my laptop onto dvd+r and low and behold i got the exact same problem that you guys got.
Anyway I found a solution to the problem which told me that i must install directx 9.0b and then transfer certain folders from c to b before completely attemting to uninstall c.
Well Im not exactly gifted with knowledge when it comes to pc jargon therefore am gonna have a repair shop completely re-install my OS for me.
The question ive got is once that is done do i try to install directx 9.0b or leave it well alone?

If you are prepared to go the reinstall route, then I think you have nothing to lose and lots of knowledge and, potentially, satisfaction to gain by trying out the stuff we’ve posted here or any other solutions you come across. Of course, messing about with your computer is time consuming but what a luxury to be know that worse come to the worse you don’t mind paying someone to reinstall your OS.
Anyway, as to your specific question, I’m sorry but I don’t know. All I can say is that every time I mess up my computer I become shy of making any changes for a while but sooner or later I’m up to my old tricks. This was true of the DirectX problem, for a while I left off and kept 9.0b, because 9.0c had supposedly caused me such problems, but after a while the desire to have the latest and bestest stuff available made me reinstall 9.0c....
Sorry, a long winded way of saying I never knew exactly what the problem was but also that it didn’t reoccur. Hope someone else can help more.

MVH Guest | Cheers for the reply mns.
After checking files on a different computer i now believe that its actually my video player which is faulty and not my copying.
Installed xp codec pack over the weekend which seemed to help the problem no end (allowing portions of the files to play) however am right down the pan again with that as real is once again stating that i have corrupt files that cannot be recognised.
I dont actually have my mpeg2 decoder installed yet which im hoping will turn out to be the problem.
Anyway thanks for your reply and hears hoping eh?

Orinoco Guest | I had the same problem as above. I went to http://www.xpcodecpack.com/ and downloaded and installed the XP codec pack resolving the problem.
