Same question as many of the people above. How do I convert videos I find on the internet, (that are wmv) into mac readable files (either QT, or something else). PLEASE HELP!

P.S. I looked at the links above and none of them seemed to work

For those mac users who want to convert things.. check the mac version of videolan client...

www.videolan.org and follow the “get vlc” button on the right.

Its ffmpeg based (amongst others), and basically just read and writes between many types of formats.

Can anyone help me figure out how to convert a .mov file into a file that i can burn to dvd. I use Sonic: MyDvd and i cant burn .mov files. Do i have to spend 30 dollars on a converter or is there a free way to have the same quality. I want something that is easy and can convert to the best quality i can possibly get. I have quicktime pro but i dont like .avi files, so is there a free version of something that can convert .mov to dvd recordable files?
phew, thanks
Nick

I did this awhile ago for a long lost wmv file I needed to fix in FCP. TRUST me if you can borrow a Pc do it there. I used my wife’s Pc with tmpeg. It did it so fast I couldn’t believe it. I was used to Cleaner taking like 5,6 hours. Tmpeg took like 30 minutes. This was 3 years ago I’m sure there’s more stuff out there. Try dvdhelp.com or vcdhelp. That’s where I got the nfo.

I’m looking for a video conversion program to convert .WMV files to .MOV format that works with Mac OS X Panther (10.3.9) so I can play files downloaded in windows media format in QuickTime 7. Anyone know of any free video encoders for Mac OS X?

I am trying to find a converter from mov (quicktime format) to wmv (Windows Media Player) in a Mac Version. We upload our movies to our web site and many people don’t want to be bothered having to download Quicktime to watch them. Does anyone know of any software that is available for Mac that will do that?

Of course everyone hates to purchase something online and like things that are free. I’ve taken the liberty of searching for a .mov converter. It’s called "Allok Soft", and it’s been said to be pretty powerful and useful when it comes to converting. The bad news is that you’re gonna have to pay to use it. But the best side is that there’s a free trial put in it. So, for that short time you would have with this, try to convert as many files with it. Free for so long; $22.50 to buy. If you want, copy this link and try it out!

Hi!

I made some “movies” using my Nikon (Still) Camera and they are in the .mov format, Windows Media Player & Real Player cant open them but QuickTime does.

I want to convert them into .avi or .wmp or any other format that I can lateron edit in Windows Movie Maker.

I have QuickTime 7 (NOT Pro!), and when I open the movie in QT and look up the Movie Properties (Window -> Show Movie Info), it shows the Format as “Photo - JPEG, 320 x 240, Millions”.

Can any one help me please?

P.S. I am on a Dell Latitude (P-IV) with Windows XP Pro.

Hey umm mac users from earlier on the page, i couldnt be bothered reading if u found anything, but i do know theres a windows program here at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=915d874d-d747-4180-a400-5f06b1b5e559&DisplayLang=en
Which um...well it says: Overview
With Windows Media® for QuickTime, by Flip4Mac™, you can play Windows Media files (.wma and .wmv) directly in QuickTime Player and view Windows Media content on the Internet using a Web browser. I don’t know if that helps but :-s .....

The easiest way I found to convert quicktime files (.mov) to Windows Media (.wmv) is a program called flip4mac. You can check it out on their website www.flip4mac.com to see if it will work with your system. I have a Mac and it’s worked out really well for me.
