WMP won't open some movies

When I try to play the movies I backed up with Windows Media Player it keeps saying that the codec is missing and It can’t be played..

The codec type is:
video/x-msvideo (XVID)

where can i get a plugin to watch these?

You can download the xvid codec here: http://www.moviecodec.com/downloads/8d.html
If you still have trouble playing the file, it may mean it’s incomplete. Try using AVIPreview or Media Player Classic.
