After a clean install of my OS i can’t play a movie-clip anymore that used to play just fine.
i tried to reinstall any and all codecs and programs i had before, but to no avail.
it’s apparently missing some 'hdv7' codec.

this is the video
VIDEO: [hdv7] 1440x1080 24bpp 25.000 fps 0.0 kbps ( 0.0 kbyte/s)
[V] filefmt:7 fourcc:0x37766468 size:1440x1080 fps:25.00 ftime:=0.0400

does anyone know anything about that video codec? is there any way i can covert or watch the movie?
if you have suggestions how a movie can become unplayable after a backup/reinstall, please post.
Thanks!

Did you try installing QuickTime? 96% of QuickTime-specific (.mov) codecs are bundled with QuickTime Player, so it would be a good first stop.
This is a list of links to downloads for QuickTime for various versions of Windows: http://www.moviecodec.com/downloads/95d.html

If it doesn’t work, open the file in QuickTime Player, click Window and pick Show Movie Information, then paste to us what the Format line says.

thanks for the help. i tried reinstalling quicktime, didn’t work. i’m on a macintosh right now, the format info from quicktime for mac says:
DV 1080p25, 1440 x 1080 (1888 x 1062), Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Mono, 32.000 kHz

anyway i got the file to run under windows xp after installing a bunch of codec packs. what’s weird is that the movie plays only in zoomplayer and bs player, 2 players that i never heard of. also it stopped working again after i tried to reinstall quicktime. the players now crash anytime i try to open the movie file.

i’m thinking of doing a clean install of windows and then only installing the codec pack that worked the last time.

The trouble is that for QuickTime fourcc’s they aren’t catalogued like fourcc’s used for AVI’s. (I always go to fourcc.org to check for fourcc’s - the closest thing for QuickTime fourcc’s is here: http://www.ntta.szm.sk/Tutors/FourCC.htm#QT4CC)

It seems to be some flavor of high-definition DV (I was hoping it one of the standard ones that came with QuickTime Player - DV/DVCPRO/PAL/NTSC (mix-and-match), but clearly it’s not). It would really help if you knew what program (or camcorder or camera) made the video.

It’s anyone’s guess who makes this codec, but you could send Apple an e-mail to ask them. It’s possible they have QuickTime fourcc’s registered or catalogued somewhere unbeknownst to the rest of us.

P.S: If you do find out the codec or program or company for the fourcc hdv7 please do post back for others to find.
