slo007 Guest | MP 10 Solution:
Start software>click Tools>click Options>click Performance Tab>click Advanced (under “video acceleration” >click “use high quality mode” (under Video Acceleration area); this will uncheck “Use overlays”.

As I stated earlier, I do not have a problem viewing audio AND video in WP but all the recipients of my email do. I wanted to forward your instructions (above) to them but when I go through these steps I don’t see the “use high quality mode”. Instead, under Video Acceleration I have a box (THAT IS CHECKED) for 'use overlays'. That’s the confusing part. You are asking us to click 'Use High Quality Mode' to 'uncheck' use overlays but since my 'use overlays' box IS checked and I see audio & video it doesn’t make sense. Are you following this? I know it sounds confusing. Just answer one question. Should 'use overlays' be checked or unchecked. That should solve the confusion.

Jon Hiler Guest | good deal!
schrek - I found out how to fix it all as well, but I’m using an ATI radeon 9600XT video card....soooo I think we’ve got this problem licked for all...anyway - there’s a checkbox in the ATI control program that said “combined writing” and so I un-checked it and all’s well

Chuck Guest | I had my refresh rate set too high (90 Hz). I reset it to 75 Hz and now I can play everything.
I hope this helps.

sgidream Guest | The tip posted by slo007 worked for me.
“Video Mirror can only function when *overlay* is
being used."
So it works in dual mode, and single mode, but not in clone mode.
Thanks!

ffdshow-20041012
From:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ffdshow/ffdshow-20041012.exe?use_mirror=voxel
And from there...everything went smoothly...thx so much!

RISC1 Guest | I had the same issue as most of people posting here namely audio but no video.
I checked with GSPOT all it was saying the necessary codec to playback DVD was ok but still no video.
Based on PanzerSchreck & slo007 posts, I decided to check the nVidia setup (my card is nVidia GeForce FX Go5200).
!!! Note : my nVidia is in german, below commands might be different as I translated them. !!!
After going through this sequence :
start > control panel > nVidia nView Desktop Manager > Zoom [tab] > Mirroring control? [button], I changed in the pulldown menu from full display > from “deactivate” to “primary display device” and....video appeared ;=))
The odd thing though is that when I put it back the video would still remain....
I hope it solves the issue of the nVidia club ;=). It shows that video card menus is definitely worth to look at before to deinstall hundreds of codecs and reinstall them...

Charles Jones Guest | I recently had this problem and im running Windows XP MCE 2004, I also have a laptop with Geforec Go5700. I recently updated to the newest Forceware drivers and found this problem started recently after. I fixed it by click Enable VMR under the Geforce VIDEO OVERLAY SETTINGS tab. I hope this helps.

Amanda Guest | I had a similar problem happening where none of my media players would play AVI files even though it used to work fine. I went through some forum suggestions and downloaded every codec pack I could find, checked out the diagnostics on GSpot and everything was fine, but the video still wouldn’t show correctly.
Well, my husband was messing around on the computer later, and for his viewing pleasure bumped the screen dimensions BACK down to 1024 x 768. I hadn’t even realized that the lack of video coincided with my changing the screen to a higher resolution (I do a lot of graphic work so I like smaller text with more workspace). The next day when trying the video everything worked great! I didn’t notice that he had changed it until a few days later and not yet realizing the coincidence, I changed it back to 1280 x 1024.
Again today the video would not work so after reinstalling all my codec packs, I realized that they had worked at the lower res. And sure enough, video is playing fine again.
So just to let anyone else know to maybe try it if they have had a similar problem, check out the dimensions of your desktop and play with them before you try reinstalling or installing new or different codecs. It might save you some frustration.
