i’ve been trying to convert movies for ages. used to make vcds til i got a dvd writer.
the best software i have used is ulead dvd workshop. it converts all movie formats, easy drag and drop tracks/menu functions and even burns the dvd afterwards.
top marks. threw all my tmpgenc out the window, don’t even need virtual dub anymore.
I also use vcdeasy to extract true mpegs from the vcd/svcds dat files to merge and get them onto one dvd

Hey, for ripping DVD’s to AVI i use “ImTOO dvd ripper” i think its awsome..
Also “Advanced DivX Bitrate Calc Version 1.95” to calculate the output file size
