Katrina Guest | I am a fairly new Digital Camera user and I need some advice from someone who knows more about this stuff than I do, I am looking to purchase a memory stick so I can store more pictures but I can’t seem to find any information on the photo capacity of the different sizes of memory. What I mean is how many pictures can a 256MB stick hold? I would really appreciate any help you could offer. Thanks!!!

anonymous Guest | That would usually depend on the size of the image(s) you’re taking. Most cameras will have adjustable compression and resolution settings. Two things to keep in mind:
1. lower compression and higher resolution = higher image quality, but bigger files
2. higher compression and low resolution = lower image quality, but smaller files
Of course the size of the image also depends on what you’re taking a picture of and will vary.
Just take a bunch of pictures and figure out the average size, then divide it into the number of MB you plan to buy in the memory stick.
example: 500 KB per image = 1/2 MB per image -> on a 32 MB memory stick you’d get about 64 images.
P.S: Your camera manual will usually have a page or two detailing how much space images take or how many can be stored on a given size memory stick with a specified quality setting.
The old adage says: get the biggest you can afford. You’ll never run out of space that way.
