im trying to import a .wav audio file into windows movie maker and it says, “The file C:\Users\Brian\Desktop\Royer1.wav cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again."

i need some help. thank you

Are you able to play the wav at all? If not and you don’t know what codec the wav uses, feed it into avicodec or gspot or videoinspector or mediainfo and tell us what the tag number and/or name of the audio codec is.
gspot: http://www.headbands.com/gspot
avicodec: http://avicodec.duby.info
videoinspector: http://www.kcsoftwares.com/?vtb
mediainfo: http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net

If you are able to play the wav, it’s possible it uses an ACM (audio equivalent of VfW (Video for Windows)) codec instead of a DirectShow or DMO (DirectX Media Object) codec. You’d have the find the latter (if it exists for your codec).
