getting .mpg movies to play on a DVD player

I have a JVC camcorder and it records in .mod files. I have read posts on here and changed my movie files over to .mpg by renaming them. However, after I burn the movies on to a disk, I can’t get them to play in any DVD player. I can get them to play in Windows and my PS3 will also play them, but not a DVD player. Why is that?
Also,I am a football coach trying to put together game film for my players to watch of the game. There are alot of little movies of each play and in the ps3 it stops after each one. How can I get it to play all the movies continously on the ps3 or in a dvd player? Thanks for the help I really appriciate it.
