Technical_Sp. Guest | what player u use in old computer and new computer
check if you need to install more codec to your system if u use winodws 95 on old system click on My computer/control panel/sounds/then click the last tab 'device'(you can do same if u use win-ME on the new computer),
click the “Video compression codec”,see how many codec u have in old computer , and is it same on the new computer...
[if u use win2000 click Hardware tab in sounds...... then click video codecs, when new window will appear click on 'Properties' tab]
if u didn’t find same codec in both then try to download codec off the internet by searching it.OR.try to encode’convert' video you have.in my view try to use “LSX Mpeg Suite"to encode the video [from old setting to new defualt setting,of the video]

Dustin Guest | Right now I have XP, and im using Media Player 9 series. The older computer is 98, and I think it had the media player 7. I dont have access to the old computer anymore. I have the latest divx, nimo codec pack, etc. So that is why I dont understand. I tried using the GSpot program on this site, and the AVI one as well, but they didnt help. Is there anything in XP that I can do to solve the problem?
Thanks | |

Technical_Sp. Guest | Are u sure that mpeg file u use is not MPEG2
have you try to use Elecard Mpeg2 Player maybe it can play it
in xp i don’t know where to check the codec but give me one day and i will help you figure out where it hide.
also u didn’t tell me what you view about encoding the video
as i know XP can play mpeg1+2 without needing codec for it,also for some divx videos too.

FrightfoO Guest | At a guess I’d say it’s MPEG-1. 21MB would be a adequate size file for perhaps, a music video, or a single recorded episode of a TV programme.
VideoLAN (www.videolan.org) should play it.
Other than that, try installing the MPEG1/2 codecs (http://www.elecard.com/download/), but as Technical_Sp. said, XP comes with the required MPEG codec preinstalled.
It’s possible the Codec Packs (i.e. the Nimo codec pack etc) are causing interference. Uninstall codec packs see if you can view the files correctly.

Technical_Sp. Guest | ok Dustin
to know where codec is start by
my computer/control panel/Sounds & audio Devices properties/click on Hardware tab/select Video Codec/click Properties/.in Video codec properties click Properties tab, there u will find what codec u use, My system using 15 codec ,what about you?
Dustin are u sure that video file u try to run is not damage, becuase its strange that winxp didn’t run it, or even after installion Elecard player.
